OUR LADY OF THE WAY

Religious Education

'....May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you loved me....' John 17: 23

Religious Education aims to “develop students’ religious literacy in light of the Catholic tradition, so that students may participate critically and effectively in the life of their faith community and wider society.” (A syllabus for Religious Education for Catholic Schools, p.18). 'Religious Education consists of two distinct but complementary dimensions, education and faith formation' (Religious Education Years 1-10 Learning Outcomes, p.1).

At Our Lady of the Way we provide a comprehensive Religious Education program that promotes learning across the four strands of the syllabus: Beliefs, Celebration and Prayer, Morality and Scripture. Students are actively involved in constructing understandings of the Catholic tradition, as well as understandings about other religious traditions, the nature of religion and its place in life and Australian society (Religious Education Years 1 to 10 Learning Outcomes, p.1). Prayer, both formal and informal is part of the daily life of the school. Children learn to celebrate their faith through class and school liturgies, Mass, and special sacred times.

Parents are the primary educators of their children, the first educators in faith. At Our Lady of the Way we recognise our privilege in working in partnership with parents and families in the important work of education in faith. The children learn to practice their faith with their families through active participation in the life of the parish. Participation of families in parish life helps children to understand that faith is a part of everyday living.
