During this term the children in Prep will be focusing on the five contexts of learning. These are play, real life, investigations, focused learning and teaching and routines and transitions. Some of the activities the children will be engaged in are:
Play: Role play, games and rules, exploring and manipulative play and imaginative play.
Real Life: Identifying attributes of family and community members, life cycle of chickens - Henny Penny Hatchery visits, looking at the 5 senses and Lent/ Easter - attending Mass and liturgies.
Investigations: Making pancakes - (Shrove Tuesday) looking at chemical changes, colour and texture, and observing the lifecycle of plants and animals.
Focused learning and Teaching: Numbers 1 -5, time - as in calendar, days of the Week, and the letters of the alphabet, songs - music and movement, computer skills, Italian, PE, Media/ Technology, etiquette - how to greet people, meal times, toilets, responsibility of belongings, addressing and responding to members of staff and peers. Learning the difference between Church and Assembly, where Father Peter lives and works, who is Mr. Hall, and Mrs. Scott-Pegum.
Routines & Transitions: Number rhymes, language games, music rhythms and navigating around the school.
