Learning Enrichment Centre
God gifted us with life and the gift of uniqueness.
The Learning Enrichment Team in collaboration with parents, class teachers, members of the school community, other professionals within Catholic Education and the wider community, strive to ensure that a continuum of educational options, which emphasise inclusion and cooperation, is provided to cater for the needs of 'special needs' students at Our Lady of the Way.
TERM ONE, 2010
Since moving into the old staff room and renaming ourselves the Learning Enrichment Centre in the middle of last year, we have now settled in well and have an area that is very welcoming and well used by many students both during class times and during second break if students feel a need to leave the playground. The old computer lab is also used as a games room for children who choose inside play at lunch time. It is monitored by staff from the Enrichment Team. Another new and exciting school year as we welcome new preps and other students to the school. We eagerly await as the school continues to transform with a new multipurpose hall and extensions to the library. We have completed whole school data gathering which has enabled teachers to best place students in literacy groups and provide the class teacher with some initial vital information about the learners in their classes. As we continue to work with the children, our collective knowledge of their strengths and weaknesses will become clearer and further influence our planning to support them. An initial meeting held on Tuesday in the community Centre for the re-establishment of a parent support group was extremely successful. The group has formed a steering committee and they intend to meet twice a term. All parents are welcome to come along and join the group. The range of activities students are involved in, are still active, individualised and relevant and are delivered in a range of capacities and settings. One primary focus this year is to run Literacy Blocks in each of the year levels in addition to programs and activities such as SLIEP, MULTILIT, Rainbow Road, Homework Support and In-Class Support.
