Integrated Unit
Year seven students are beginning their learning journey this term with an integrated unit (SOSE/English/Technology) on Fashion. What’s hot and what’s not? Who and what influences what I wear? What makes fashion change? The term begins with a walk through fashion history. Students will explore a decade from the 1900s and present their decade in the form of a documentary drama. The term will finish with the students designing and creating a fashionable item of clothing. Our Science focus is ‘changing materials to make them useful’. Students begin by examining the properties of various items and how these properties suit their purpose and design. The unit culminates with an investigation to test various fabrics.
Maths is based around a number of student led investigations that incorporate number, time and money. Students will plan and budget for a trip around the world producing a travel itinerary. The Health unit focuses on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and students become lifestyle consultants for nutrition, emotional, social and physical well being.
Visual Arts for term one explores influential artists of the past. The students learn about their different techniques and apply these to their own artworks. The unit concludes with the students producing a piece of artwork that incorporates elements of all the artists’ styles.
Literacy is based around literacy groups, in which students become Code Breakers, Discussion Managers, Investigators and Illustrators. The resources include newspaper articles, reports, biographies and magazine articles.
Students will also engage in an hour of Italian each week with Ana.
Religious Education
This term in Religion we are on a journey to Easter. Beginning in Holy Week and finishing with the Ascension. Students will take the rest of the school through this journey, viewing the story through different lenses.
