Year Six
TERM ONE OVERVIEW

Integrated Unit
During this term the children in Year 6 will be focusing on the unit “Winter Olympics! Read All About It!”. We will be exploring this unit about newspapers by following the coverage of the Winter Olympics and developing our research, interview and writing skills to create our own broadsheet newspaper about the Winter Olympics. We will be able to put our interview skills to the test when we chat via web video conferencing to a real Olympian at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
Religious Education
In religious education this term the children will be engaged in learning about “The Spirit of Sport”. It is hoped that in engaging in this unit, students will think about the importance of playing fair and what behaviours and values are associated with the spirit of sport. Whilst students engage in reading and discussing news stories about Fair Play and the Spirit of Sport, it is hoped that they will make connections to their prior learning/faith development in this area and deepen their understanding and therefore feel more confident in applying these principles to other areas of their life/learning. . |
