Year Five
TERM FOUR OVERVIEW

Integrated Unit
For our integrated unit this term, Year Five students will be investigating a wide range of topics linking to unit titled 'Our Earth and Beyond'. Students will be taking a hands-on approach through investigating characteristics of soil, its formation and how it links to aspects of weathering and erosion in our local environment. Students will also be investigating questions like, 'what causes day and night' and studying the relationships between the Sun, Earth and Moon. Students will also be involved in developing a deeper understanding of our Solar System.
In linking this unit to English, students will be exploring the narrative genre. Students will plan, draft and edit a short story using the knowledge they have learnt about our Earth and beyond.
Religion Unit
Throughout Term 4 students will be given the opportunity to demonstrate religion outcomes by exploring messages in religious and other texts to identify Christian moral values. Students explore the implications of church teachings and human wisdom on personal moral behaviour.
We have a number of exciting events happening this term. These include:
- Swimming Carnival on Thursday 23rd October 2008.
- Bandana Day on Friday 24th of October 2008.
- School Concert on Wednesday the 5th November 2008.
- Year 5 Excursion to the Planetarium on Wednesday 5th of November 2008.
- Jump Rope for Heart on Wednesday the 19th of November 2008.
